Bracelet stacks are making a comeback, so here's a handy guide from me to you, on how to sea this trend out in Mahina style.
Without giving away my age, bracelet stacks were a huge trend when I was growing up and I'm so excited to see this trend make a fabulous return.
Bracelet stacks are a playful and creative way to show off your personality, and you can style them with minimalist layers or bold bundles. Whichever is your preference, here's my step-by-step guide on bracelet stacks:
1. Choose Your "Anchor" Piece:
This is the star bracelet of the stack. This can be a bangle, charm bracelet, so anything that feels like a statement piece, aka, something that would stand out the most out of all the bracelets you pick.
2. Give It Some Variety
This is the fun part! Mix different bracelet types within your bracelet stack. By this, I'm talking about combining bangles, cuffs, textures, beads, and charms.
Have fun with proportions; for example, some may be thinner layers, more delicate, wider, or chunkier. Trust me, this makes it SO much more eye-catching and prevents your stack from looking a little flat or repetitive.
Don't forget about colour schemes and texture! Choose gemstones, beads, and other coloured elements to accent or contrast with your metallics. This is great for ocean-inspired stacks.
Add colour with birthstones, charms, or oceanic themes like shells, pearls, and turquoise for a unique sea-inspired touch.
3. Mix and Match Metals
It may sound 'taboo' in the fashion world, a bit like mixing stripes with dots, but mixing metals can make your stack pop!
Don't be afraid to mix metals like gold and silver for a contemporary touch, or if it doesn't look right, you can also stick to a single metal for a more classic look - especially if you're matching your stack with other accessories like necklaces, rings, and earrings.
4. Build Your Stack in Odd Numbers
Again, this may seem a little out there, but I love stacking in odd numbers like three, five, or seven bracelets per stack. Equally, don't overload it. Here's a handy rule: don't cover more than one-third of your forearm for the best and most balanced look.
5. Comfort First, Style Second
I'm a big believer in comfort first when it comes to fashion and accessories, and when I talk about comfort, I mean nothing that's going to feel like faff or a nuisance in your day-to-day.
I recommend placing the heaviest or largest bracelet closest to your wrist, ranging to the lightest or thinnest going up the arm.
Make sure nothing feels too tight or tangles easily. A finger’s width of slack is perfect for comfort and movement, and you can test the arrangement for comfort by swapping out pieces freely depending on your outfit or mood. #BeachMood
6. Make It YOU
Remember when I said that bracelet stacks can be a shell-rific reflection of your personality? Well, you can use bracelets in your stack that hold meaning to you, like friendship or charm bracelets.
Why not switch things up? Change the order, mix up those textures, or focus on colour schemes - whatever story you're wanting to tell from your outfit. The beauty of stacks is that they can look different every day!
Some Fin-tastic Stacking Ideas
If you're aiming for an ocean-inspired stack, use pearls, shells, and gemstones (especially turquoise!) to show off your ocean soul (and accessories).
Going for the boho look? Then definitely mix leather, natural stones, and metal bangles with beaded bracelets.
For the minimalists, layer two or three slim metallic bracelets with a single standout bangle.
Let your creativity flow and your bracelet stack encompass individuality. Have fun experimenting! The best bracelet stacks reflect YOUR story and style.
